Entertain Us (Kurt Cobain)

A few years back I released my first Cobain painting titled “Come as You Are” knowing full well I would be revisiting him time and time again. On the first painting I was mostly concerned with the concept and feel, I wanted to portray the reluctant rock star and the feeling of grunge in general – in doing so, I portrayed him without actually showing any facial features. I hadn’t planned on revisiting him so soon, however, a succession of three things happened this spring that pushed me toward another Cobain sooner than later. The first was a visit to Seattle’s Experience Music Project, which could only be described as a spiritual pilgrimage for me. Shortly after, I celebrated a milestone birthday in the same month as the 20th anniversary of Kurt’s passing. This month was especially nostalgic for me and the photos and articles that appeared on news-stands everywhere thrust this music icon back up to the top of the must do list.
